Information

Please Note:

The regionally sponsored tours of the North West and East Midlands have now finished.

We are currently seeking new partners to continue the Lab in a Lorry experience in other areas.

In the meantime we will only be operating in Scotland.

Thanks to everyone who helped to make the last 3 years a success.

Inmage of boy on board lorryInterested in inspiring young people with real hands on science? Would you like to create a unique community event, sharing your passion for science by enthusing young people? Then why not register your interest in having Lab in a Lorry visit your area - we'll do our very best to accommodate your request.

As of August 2010 Lab in a Lorry will only be available in Scotland but for schools throughout the rest of the UK and Ireland feel free to register. Your details will be added to our database and we’ll be in touch when our funding arrangements change.

In considering visit requests, we'll need to take a number of factors into consideration.  These will be the time and the distance to travel, whether we have sufficient bookings to spend at least 1 week in a geographical area, and above all, to ensure that we have volunteers to staff the event.

We regularly review requests against these criteria, and if they can be met, we will be happy to contact you when Lab in a Lorry is in your area.  In the case of overlapping requests, schools will be dealt with on a first-come-first-served basis.

Basic requirements for a Lab in a Lorry visit are:

    • somewhere to park (supermarket car park, public event,
schools etc).  For information on the lorry dimensions click here
    • groups of young people (11-14 year olds)
    • volunteers

We are inviting scientists and engineers to staff Lab in a Lorry, and by recruiting scientists from your local area, you improve the probability that Lab in a Lorry visits your community. If you have friends or colleagues who are scientists or engineers then why not ask them if they would like to be involved? If you cannot recruit any scientists from your area, then we may be able to help organise a team for you.

DISABLED ACCESS - Please note that Lab in a Lorry has a hydraulic lift for wheelchair users.
